This week I started my summer school class which is American Sign Language. Wednesday was my first day and Thursday concluded my first week.
The first day was interesting. Our teacher is completely deaf, and pretty much everyone knew no sign language. However, we had an interpreter that day. She told us the way the class would be and we played some games and got out early. w00t!
Day 2, Thursday, we had no interpreter (and won’t the rest of the class) and one of the main rules of the class is that we have to turn off our voice as soon as we enter. I’m fairly quiet, so I’m used to not talking during class, but it was weird not to hear anything during class. We learned the basics of fingerspelling and a few phrases/words or salutation. And played several games that made us feel ridiculous since we’re in college. But, I must admit they’re fun, and makes the three hours go by fast. And gets you familiar with people, even though you can’t “talk” to them.
Oh, my favorite new word in sign language is the word for “bored/boring.”

Good Luck in your class. That’s so good that you guys are “voices off” during class. My first two semesters we talked WAY too much and didn’t practice conversational signing.
