Art, history, the Bible… Musings of a Christian woman.

favorite things.

Not quite raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens, but I decided to make a blog post about some of my favorite things. Of course there are the obvious things like: walking on crunchy leaves in the fall, being snuggled up under the covers on a cold/rainy day…but lets not get too “Sound of Music” with these things. Just some typical facts that you may or may not have known about me.

arsenic.jpg First up favorite movie, for one reason it’s the first thing I put down on my list, and for another, it’s fairly easy for me to name. Yes, there are lots of movies I like, but this one always seems to come out just a bit ahead. Of course I’m talking about Arsenic and Old Lace.Classic black comedy, and one that always makes me laugh. Who can’t love a movie with lines like, “When I come back, I expect to find you gone…Wait for me!”?

341423.jpgEver have a CD you can put in the CD player and listen to over and over? Well, the Scarlet Pimpernel Encore CD is like that for me. I’m not entirely sure why. If you ever give it a listen definitely get the Encore version (I’ve listened to this and the original cast) and listen to song #18 “I’ll Forget You.” Powerful song, that has been known to make me cry.

helen.jpgDelving deep into my childhood we come across my favorite book. Okay, I know that often I say that the Scarlet Letter or House of the Seven Gables is my favorite. Perhaps the adult in me that actually understand symbolism, and is quite enamored with the language of that time period loves those books. But, Wait Until Helen Comes has been a favorite since I was probably 6 or 7. It’s a quick read, and captivating story, and a fun setting: seriously living in an old renovated church next to a graveyard in the middle of the country–it sounds so fun. It’s a mandatory read every two years at least for me. I even read it to Rick once, in the car over a weekend when we had a lot of driving to do. He seemed to enjoy it.

Favorite art movement. Okay, so this is not a typical favorite for most people, but if you know me at all, you know that art plays a very important part in my life. Often times I am asked to name my favorite artist, a task I find most daunting, and almost entirely unsurmountable. However, I do have quite an interest in the PreRaphaelite Brotherhood. I will avoid the art history lesson today. I love the medieval feel: long pretty dresses, long flowing hair. I realize most didn’t actually look like this, but it’s a fairy tale kinda feel, similar to watching the Lord of the Rings movies.

nrimenu.jpg gggenu.jpg Noble Romans, and I’m not talking the kind that you can find in gas stations or bowling alleys, but an actual Nobel Romans restaurant with real Noble Romans pizza…it’s a beautiful thing. This is what I’ve had for my birthday every year for the past several years. And now, I live so far away from an actual restaurant, that I really look forward to having it on my birthday when the time comes (of course that doesn’t mean that I won’t go there for lunch sometime when I’m in Indy for school.)

gy_ex4wd_34front.jpgThis may come as a shock to most people, but my favorite new car is the Honda Element. Okay, so it’s really closer to an SUV, but in reality it’s fairly small, and I really like the design. Any color will do, but I am a bit partial to the dark gray. (I find it a similar, but more aesthetically pleasing choice for Rick’s current favorite, the Scion xB).

vette.jpgHowever, my all-time favorite car is, of course the 1969 Chevy Corvette Stingray. Love this color too (I’m thinking it’s enhanced by the complimentary yellow-green grass next to it)

Well, I’m sure there are many other favorite things that I do have, but for the most part, they are completely boring and/or do not really have any pictures for them, and I’m all about the visual. But, I will leave you with this:

My favorite internet addiction is Blufr. Enjoy!
