Art, history, the Bible… Musings of a Christian woman.

Theory presentation? Check.

If you know me at all, you know that I greatly dislike talking; and if you know me alot, you wonder how this can be true since sometimes I won’t shut up. Well, today I had to give a presentation in front of everyone for my art theory class. The class itself was fairly interesting, if you are interested in art theory, that is.

I decided to do my presentation on the artist Chris Burden. Trans-fixed I won’t bore you too much by actually going into detail about my presentation. But, basically Burden is famous for many different “body works” in which he pushed the limits of his own body, and sought to experience things most people do not experience.

While giving presentations (I was not up yet, it was another guy in my class), suddenly, a mouse ran along the wall toward the front of the room. The speaker saw it, and was surprised and pointed it out. After a few moments of squeamishness from everyone, he finished, and the teacher turned to me for me to go next. Now, the mouse, as far as we knew was still in the front of the room under all of the computer equipment. “Great,” I thought, “and I have a CD I need to put in.” I gave my presentation seated at the front desk, with my feet uncomfortably propped up on the leg of the desk. Not only did I have to battle my fear of public speaking, but also that of mice. Next thing I expected was an ostrich to come walking through the door!

Sitting back in my seat with my heart still pounding, I looked over the form I was to fill out for each speaker. “Ways to improve the presentation” for the guy before me? No mice!
